When most people think of wind energy, they imagine giant turbines with large spinning blades. The Vortex Bladeless Turbine takes a completely different approach.

Instead of spinning, it vibrates.

The system generates electricity using motion rather than rotation. There are no giant blades cutting through the air and no traditional spinning rotor. Instead, the device oscillates with the wind, creating energy through controlled vibrations.

How the Technology Works

The design is surprisingly simple. A fixed base supports a cylindrical mast that oscillates freely perpendicular to the wind direction. The mast is connected by a carbon rod that allows the structure to move with the airflow.

As the wind passes around the mast, it creates vibrations that cause the structure to wobble back and forth. This movement becomes the source of energy generation.

Generating Electricity Without Rotation

Unlike traditional wind turbines, the Vortex system does not require a rotating shaft or gearbox.

Inside the device, coils and magnetic fields interact to generate electricity through electromagnetic induction. The principle is similar to a conventional alternator, but the energy comes from oscillation rather than rotation.

The internal components never collide with each other. Instead, they interact through magnetic forces to convert motion into electrical power.

Fewer Moving Parts, Less Maintenance

One of the advantages of the design is its simplicity. With minimal moving parts, there are fewer components that can wear out over time.

The absence of blades, gearboxes, and complex rotating systems can help reduce maintenance requirements compared to traditional wind turbines.

The straightforward design also allows for easier manufacturing, installation, and operation.

Designed for Urban and Residential Spaces

Because the turbine does not use large spinning blades, it requires less space than conventional wind turbines. The compact footprint makes it a potential option for urban environments and residential areas where space is limited.

The design is also quieter than traditional turbines and can be more wildlife-friendly because there are no large rotating blades.

Smart Energy Simplified

The Vortex Bladeless Turbine represents a different way of thinking about wind energy. Rather than relying on rotation, it captures energy from vibration and oscillation.

With a simple structure, fewer moving parts, reduced maintenance needs, and a smaller footprint, the technology aims to make wind power more practical for locations where traditional turbines may not be suitable.

The Redcoast Laser Obstacle Remover is designed to cut hazardous branches near power lines without requiring workers to climb to dangerous heights. Instead of using traditional cutting tools, the system uses a high-energy optical fiber laser that can be operated remotely.

The laser accurately targets branches and cuts them from a distance, helping improve obstacle clearance efficiency in difficult environments.

Built for Complex Outdoor Operations

The system is designed for complex operational environments where access can be difficult or unsafe. In addition to cutting branches near power lines, it can also be used for removing hanging objects and in emergency rescue situations.

This Portable Laser System Removes Dangerous Tree Branches

Because the laser is remotely controlled, operators can work from a safer distance while still targeting precise locations.

Portable System With Multiple Components

The device combines several components into one portable setup. It includes the main host unit, a power bank, focusing emission device, precise pan-tilt system, tripod, and a self-developed control system.

Despite its capabilities, the full setup weighs less than 24 kilograms, making it easier to transport and deploy in outdoor environments.

High-Power Fiber Laser System

The Redcoast Laser Obstacle Remover uses an optical fiber laser system with a maximum power output of 1500W. The pan-tilt mechanism supports 360-degree rotation, allowing operators to adjust the laser direction precisely during operation.

The system also includes warning lights, alarms, tilt prevention, and trigger prevention features designed to improve operational safety.

Remote Tree Cutting Without Climbing

By combining remote control, laser precision, and portable deployment, the Redcoast Laser Obstacle Remover offers a different approach to handling hazardous branches and obstacles near power infrastructure. Instead of sending workers to high locations, the system allows dangerous cutting operations to be performed from the ground.

Meet the Hybrid WindPalm by NewWorldWind. At first glance, it looks like a modern metal tree. But this is not a decorative structure. It is a compact power plant designed to generate electricity from both wind and sunlight.

A Tree-Shaped Electricity Production System

The structure uses 3 to 5 steel trunks and branches that hold multiple leaf-shaped turbines called Aeroleaf. Each leaf is a small vertical wind turbine that spins even in low winds. On top of the branches are thin photovoltaic petals that collect solar energy. This combination allows the system to produce power during the day and night.

Designed for Public and Private Spaces

The Hybrid WindPalm is designed for roadsides, public areas, and private gardens. It does not use large spinning blades and does not create loud noise. Instead, it quietly generates clean energy exactly where it is needed without requiring wide open land.

Power Output and Hybrid Generation

The hybrid version produces between 5.4 kW + 432 Wc and 9.0 kW + 740 Wc. The photovoltaic petal is light and thin, weighing less than 800 grams and only 3 mm thick. This design helps the system capture sunlight efficiently while keeping the structure balanced.

The WIND PALM 30 A Hybrid Model

The high-end WIND PALM 30 A Hybrid model stands 8.8 meters tall with a diameter of 7.8 meters. It includes 30 Aeroleaf wind turbines and 20 solar petals. Each Aeroleaf produces 300 W, and each solar petal produces 36 Wc, giving a maximum power output of 9720 W. The total system weight is around 2490 kg.

Electrical System and Installation

The electrical cabinet includes a battery, hybrid inverter, and essential safety systems such as fuse wire, switchgears, a lightning conductor, and an isolation switch required for commissioning. The system is built to operate safely while delivering continuous renewable energy.

Cost and Purpose

The Hybrid WindPalm costs approximately €37,500, or around US$44,039. It is designed as a compact, quiet, and visually appealing way to generate renewable electricity using both wind and solar power in urban and landscaped environments.

Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology have developed SoundOff, a low-cost passive sensing system for smart homes. These sensors do not use electricity, electronics, or batteries. Instead, they detect motion using sound.

Small Metal Tags with Unique Ultrasonic Fingerprints

The system uses small, uniquely shaped metal tags. Each tag is designed so that its shape determines how it vibrates. When movement happens, the tag produces a natural resonance that shifts entirely into the ultrasonic range. This ultrasonic frequency pattern acts as a unique fingerprint for that tag and is inaudible to people.

Unlike a normal piece of metal that creates a long, audible ringing sound when struck, these specially designed tags do not produce lasting audible resonance. The resonance exists in ultrasonic frequencies only.

Uniquely shaped metal tags used for ultrasonic sensing.

Clear Signals in Everyday Environments

These ultrasonic signals maintain a high signal-to-noise ratio even when people are talking, music is playing, water is running, or home appliances are operating. The signals remain clear and distinguishable in normal home conditions.

Example placement on household objects for sensing.

Detecting Motion Without Power

A wearable ultrasonic microphone can listen for these ultrasonic fingerprints. By recognizing the specific pattern, the system can determine which object moved and when it moved. The tag itself remains fully passive with no electronics or batteries.

Passive tags with no electronics or power source.

Practical Examples in Daily Life

A tag attached to a door can allow the system to detect when and which door was opened. A tag placed on a toilet can detect a bathroom visit and remind you to wash your hands, while also measuring how long you washed.

A tag attached to a squat rack can count exercise repetitions by detecting each movement. Tags on windows can allow the system to detect when rain starts and identify which window needs to be closed.

Non-Invasive and Non-Intrusive Sensing

SoundOff provides a way to sense motion and activity in a home without cameras, wired sensors, or powered devices. The system relies only on passive metal tags and ultrasonic detection, making it a non-invasive and non-intrusive approach to smart home monitoring.

What if a driveway could help reduce plastic waste instead of adding more concrete to the ground? PURPLE PAVÉ is a driveway system created from 100% recycled plastic waste. The installation process looks similar to a regular driveway project, but instead of pouring concrete, these slabs are placed on the ground and locked together to form a solid surface.

Plastic Waste Transformed into a Driveway Surface

The tiles are manufactured entirely from plastic waste. This material is processed and shaped into strong modular slabs suitable for outdoor ground use. By converting waste into a construction surface, PURPLE PAVÉ offers a practical use for recycled materials without relying on traditional driveway methods such as concrete or asphalt.

The finished tiles come in an anthracite grey color that suits most outdoor environments and residential spaces. The pieces simply fit together to create a stable driveway surface. Because of this modular system, installation is quick and straightforward.

A driveway built from recycled plastic waste instead of concrete.

No heavy machinery is required during the installation process. The tiles are manageable in size and weight, allowing them to be positioned and connected manually.

Permeable Design for Rainwater Drainage

Unlike concrete driveways that seal the ground, these tiles allow rainwater to pass through the surface and drain into the soil below. This design helps prevent water accumulation and supports natural drainage through the ground.

Tile Sizes and Weight

PURPLE PAVÉ tiles are available in two formats. The large model measures 100 × 50 × 7 centimeters and weighs approximately 10 kilograms. The small model measures 50 × 50 × 7 centimeters and weighs approximately 5 kilograms. Both sizes are designed to be easy to handle during installation while providing a strong and stable surface once assembled.

Packaging and Surface Coverage

For transport and planning, the tiles are supplied on pallets measuring 110 × 110 centimeters. A pallet of the large model contains 60 tiles and can cover approximately 30 square meters of area. A pallet of the small model contains 100 tiles and covers about 25 square meters.

This packaging format allows easy calculation of how many pallets are required depending on the driveway size.

Removable and Replaceable Surface

Since the tiles are not bonded with concrete or adhesives, the driveway surface can be removed later if needed. Individual slabs can also be replaced without affecting the rest of the surface. This makes the system practical for situations where ground access may be required in the future.

Designed for Long-Term Use

The system is designed with a projected lifetime of 50 years. The tiles are engineered to be extremely strong and suitable for long-term outdoor use while maintaining their structure and performance.

The product demonstrates how waste materials can be converted into a functional and durable driveway solution without the need for traditional construction methods.

NiTO wooden bricks offer a modular way to build walls without using nails or glue. The system works with solid wooden blocks that simply click and stack together. This system lets builders assemble walls quickly using a straightforward, puzzle-like construction method.

Solid Wood Without Additives

NiTO bricks are made from pure solid wood. The material contains no additives or adhesives, which means the blocks remain fully recyclable. Using natural wood also helps maintain a clean material structure throughout the building system.

Tongue-and-Groove Interlocking System

However, each block includes a 5-centimeter tongue-and-groove connection. This design allows the bricks to interlock in multiple directions, creating a stable wall structure as the blocks stack on top of each other.

Solid wood blocks stack together to create walls without nails or adhesives.

Block Sizes and Wall Dimensions

Also, NiTO offers two block sizes to support different building needs. The standard solid block measures 40 × 40 × 15 centimeters, while the half block measures 20 × 40 × 15 centimeters. These sizes allow builders to adjust layouts and complete wall sections more easily. When assembled, the finished walls typically have a total thickness between 32 and 38 centimeters.

Thermal Performance

Moreover, the wall system provides insulation values suitable for residential construction. Depending on the configuration, the walls can achieve U-values from 0.14 to 0.18 W/(m²K). The lower value corresponds to passive house-level insulation performance.

Natural Indoor Environment

Wood naturally interacts with indoor air. The material helps regulate humidity levels, absorbs certain pollutants, and contributes to a comfortable indoor atmosphere. Because the structure uses solid wood blocks without chemical additives, the wall system keeps the natural properties of the material.

Suitable for Different Types of Buildings

NiTO wooden bricks can be used for a range of projects. Also, the modular system makes it possible to build houses, garages, garden sheds, and other small structures.

They said, the system has received DIBt approval in Germany for buildings up to two floors plus an attic.
This certification allows builders to use the modular wooden bricks in residential structures within those limits.

Solar panels don’t always have to sit on rooftops. Austria-based Sunbooster has introduced the Sunbooster VERTICAL, a solar fence system that works as both a privacy screen and a clean energy generator. Its design turns ordinary fencing into a productive part of your home.

A Vertical Solar Approach

Unlike traditional rooftop panels, the Sunbooster VERTICAL uses bifacial solar strips mounted vertically. Each strip captures sunlight from the front and back, allowing it to make use of reflected light from the ground, snow, or nearby surfaces.

Because of this vertical orientation, it performs especially well during low-angle winter sun and in the morning and evening—times when rooftop panels often struggle.

Sunbooster VERTICAL panels adjusting automatically to sunlight direction.

Designed for Everyday Spaces

The Sunbooster VERTICAL can be installed along fences, garden walls, or even rooftops without requiring large mounting systems or tilted frames. Its slim form makes it easy to integrate into existing outdoor structures while still delivering year-round energy production.

Flexible Power Options

The system is designed to scale based on your needs. A single setup with six strips can deliver up to 468 Wp, while a dual setup doubles this to 936 Wp. For higher output, a 4-strip system of 4×6 strips can provide up to 1,872 Wp, giving homeowners more flexibility in how much energy they want to generate.

Lightweight and Weatherproof

Each strip is extremely slim at only 1.8 mm thick and weighs around 1.0 to 1.2 kg, depending on length. The system operates reliably between –20°C and 60°C, and holds an IP67 protection rating, making it ready for year-round outdoor exposure.

Easy Fence Compatibility

Sunbooster VERTICAL is made to fit standard double wire mesh fences with wire gauges of 6/5/6 and 8/6/8, making installation quick and accessible. Because the modules are vertical and lightweight, most fences require no structural modifications.

A Practical and Affordable Upgrade

With a starting cost of €599.90, homeowners get both a privacy upgrade and a renewable energy solution in one. For those who want clean power without changing their roof or yard layout, the Sunbooster VERTICAL offers a practical new approach to solar energy.

A new era of construction is emerging with Charlotte, a spider-like robot developed by Crest Robotics and Earthbuilt Technology. This fully autonomous machine promises to build a 200 m² home per day. Without cement, firing, or manual labor.

A Smarter, Faster, and Greener Way to Build

Traditional construction is slow, costly, and heavily carbon-intensive. Charlotte changes that. By using locally available materials and eliminating the need for cement or bricks, it delivers low-cost and low-carbon housing at remarkable speed.

Designed for Earth and Beyond

Charlotte was designed not only for Earth but also with lunar exploration in mind. Conventional construction methods can’t work on the Moon, where water and heavy materials are scarce. Charlotte’s lightweight and foldable design makes it compact enough for space travel, offering a practical solution for future Moon bases and extraterrestrial habitats.

The Earthbuilt Extrusion System

At the core of this innovation is Earthbuilt’s extrusion system, attached beneath the robot. It collects and compresses materials such as sand, soil, and crushed brick waste, binding them in fabric to form structural layers. The result is a durable wall, strong, stable, and made without cement.

The Future of Construction and 3D Printing

3D printing is reshaping the way buildings are made, and Earthbuilt is redefining 3D printing itself. By removing complex supply chains and reducing the need for multiple trades, Earthbuilt technology cuts costs and time.

Sustainable Homes at Scale

With Charlotte’s technology, building affordable, sustainable homes becomes possible at both speed and scale. On Earth, this could mean low-cost housing for communities in need. In space, it paves the way for self-sufficient habitats built directly from local soil.
