The French helmet maker Roof has introduced a surprising rethink of traditional helmet design. Instead of adding AI features, cameras, or augmented-reality displays, they went back to the basics and redesigned the way a helmet opens and fits. The result is the DJagger, a full-face motorcycle helmet that eliminates the need for a chin strap and opens from the back.

A Helmet That Opens from the Back

The DJagger uses an occipital opening system, which means the rear section of the helmet swings open. This removes the need to slip the helmet over the head in the usual way. Because the opening is at the back, the helmet closes around the rider’s head in a more natural and ergonomic motion.

No Chin Strap Required

One of the most distinctive features of the DJagger is that it does not need a traditional chin strap at all. The locking system secures the helmet without the typical buckle or strap around the neck. This means no more adjusting straps, dealing with tight pressure points, or feeling discomfort on long rides. It also allows the helmet to maintain a firm and consistent fit every time.

The helmet without a chin strap, designed for a secure fit.

Easy to Wear With Glasses and Gloves

Because of the back-opening design, riders no longer need to remove their glasses or gloves when putting on or taking off the helmet. The opening is wide and accessible, reducing friction and avoiding the common issue of frames getting caught or gloves struggling with straps and buckles. This makes gearing up faster and more convenient.

Safety and Emergency Response Benefits

The DJagger’s design also supports quick emergency removal after a fall. Since there is no chin strap holding tension around the neck, first responders can access and remove the helmet without applying pressure to sensitive areas. This can help reduce the risk of further injury during rescue situations.

Clear Vision With Photochromic Technology

Roof includes a photochromic visor with the helmet, allowing the visor to automatically adjust to changes in light conditions. Riders can move from bright sunlight to shaded roads without swapping visors. The helmet also supports Pinlock lenses, helping prevent fogging in cold or humid weather.

A Simpler, Smarter Redesign

The DJagger is not filled with smart tech or digital features. Instead, Roof focused on rethinking the core problem: comfort, usability, and practical safety. By removing the chin strap and introducing a rear-opening full-face design, they created a helmet that feels different the moment you put it on.
