Have you ever been scared of rushing cars encroaching on your urban bike-friendly zone? How great would it be if you could ride your bike or electric bike with full confidence and without fear of falling? Well, Paris-based company Urban Circus has designed the autonomous airbag jacket called ‘CIRRUS’. It is a combination of technology and creativity.
However, you may remember the Hövding 3 an inflatable airbag helmet that protects your head and neck. But here, the CIRRUS protects our upper body’s four important parts including the back, neck, abdomen, and thorax. Moreover, this smart bike jacket deploys the airbag within 0.08 seconds when it detects a fall or collision. It is fast enough to cover your body before it hits the ground or other vehicle.
Meanwhile, the fall detection system has two built-in movement sensors. One is attached to the bike, while the other is attached to the jacket. Most importantly, these sensors use accelerometers and gyroscopes to track movement and position 400 times each second.
They also share data through radio proprietary protocol. Their specialized algorithm automatically detects the movement that is related to the collision or a fall. That is to say, the algorithm has been developed to identify the impact in all directions and prevent unnecessary airbag activation.
Further, the airbag inside the jacket is reusable. Once it deploys, simply replace the gas cartridge which is easily assessable through the size zip opening, and reuse it again. Also, the rechargeable battery and other electronic components can be removed if the jacket needs a wash.
To add extra safety, the CIRRUS is equipped with light-reflective coating and water resistance capability. Currently, the Airbag Jacket CIRRUS raising funds on Kickstarter and raised more than $58,000+ at the moment. Do you like the idea? Then you can get one for the pledge of US$623.
