The future of personal air mobility is taking shape in London, where the aviation startup AltoVolo has introduced an ambitious new personal aircraft called the Sigma. This hybrid-electric VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) vehicle packs a serious punch with 1,608 horsepower, combining raw power with efficient, quiet, and compact design.

Compact Powerhouse Built for Urban and Remote Flight

The Sigma is a three-seater hybrid-electric aircraft capable of cruising at 220 mph and flying up to 500 miles on a single charge and fuel cycle. Its tilting jet propulsion system allows it to take off and land vertically, much like a helicopter, but itโ€™s 80% quieter, making it ideal for urban environments.

Designed for Flexibility and Safety

At just 4.8 meters wide and a maximum take-off weight of 980kg, the Sigma is compact enough to land on driveways, rooftops, or yachts. Itโ€™s built with safety in mind, featuring a ballistic parachute for emergency descent. The aircraft can hover for 15 minutes, reach a top speed of 290 mph, and fly at altitudes of up to 10,000 feet. When operating in electric-only mode, it can still cover an impressive 260 miles.

Made for the Real World, Not Just Sci-Fi

While the Sigmaโ€™s technology may sound futuristic, itโ€™s grounded in practicality. The design is optimized for performance and convenience, offering a 270kg payload for passengers and cargo. Its hybrid-electric system helps extend range and maintain operational flexibility even in areas with limited charging infrastructure.

Launch Edition Coming Soon

AltoVolo is preparing for an exclusive early release. According to their official website, qualifying customers will be invited to join the waiting list for the launch edition Sigma aircraft starting in early July. This is a major step forward in making personal VTOL flight a reality for private users.
