The Volkswagen ID. Buzz autonomous robotaxi is a self-driving vehicle developed by MOIA, aiming to transform city ridepooling with Level 4 autonomy. Engineered to be on the road by 2027, this van brings together the familiar design of the ID. Buzz with cutting-edge autonomy technology from Mobileye.

Designed for Autonomy

The ID. Buzz AD is more than just a driverless van, itโ€™s a purpose-built vehicle designed to safely operate in city environments without human intervention. It features an extended wheelbase and a raised roofline, offering extra space and comfort. Inside, thereโ€™s room for four passengers and their luggage, making it ideal for ridepooling.

On the outside and under the skin, the vehicle is packed with self-driving tech. Volkswagen ID. Buzz autonomous robotaxiย uses 13 cameras, 9 LiDAR scanners, and 5 radar sensors to scan its surroundings in real time. A Level 4 autonomous driving system, developed by Mobileye, gives the van the ability to drive itself in most conditions without any driver involvement.

Safe, Smart, and Seamless

The van has redundant braking, steering, and power systems, ensuring that it can remain operational even in case of technical issues. It also relies on precise map data, intelligent route planning, and cloud-based updates, allowing the robotaxi to navigate complex urban environments with ease.

Passengers can book rides through an app, use a PIN pad for secure entry, and enjoy automated doors that open and close without manual effort. Every part of the experience is designed to be simple and user-friendly.

Designed for Everyone

Accessibility is a priority. The interior includes yellow seatbelts, sliding doors, grab handles, Braille labels, and seat-side control buttons, making the vehicle usable by people with a range of physical abilities. This thoughtful design allows the Volkswagen ID. Buzz autonomous robotaxi to serve a wider audience than most conventional ride-sharing services.

A Scalable Mobility Solution

MOIAโ€™s role doesnโ€™t stop at just vehicle development. As a Volkswagen Group mobility services company, MOIA aims to offer a turnkey solution to cities and private operators looking to implement autonomous transportation. With ID. Buzz AD, public and private mobility providers can deploy safe, scalable, and efficient autonomous ride services.
