In the world of green products and environmental consciousness, there hasn’t been a lot of progress when it comes to generating off-the-grid power. Solar energy is one of the familiar green energy sources for off-grid nowadays. Unfortunately, we can’t use solar panels all the time especially in bad weather conditions. ‘Wind Catcher’ is a portable and powerful wind turbine that charges your electronics and gadgets while you enjoying nature.
However, it was invented by a Copenhagen, Denmark-based startup ‘KiteX’ which is founded by an award-winning Red Dot engineer ‘Andreas Okholm’. The Wind Catcher weighs only 10kg and takes almost 15 minutes to set up. Surprisingly, this lightweight turbine produces 600W which is fair enough to power all of our off-grid appliances. Moreover, it is compatible with most standard off-the-grid units. So you can simply plug the turbine into your existing unit to generate or store the electricity.
Above all, the Wind Catcher comes in two different versions. The lighter version will generate 200W at 4 m/s wind speed. That is ideal to charge our smartphone and laptops when the wind is slow. If you are living off-grid and use solar power, then this portable wind turbine will be the perfect addition to your energy source. Meanwhile, anyone can easily install this with the help of adjustable belts.
It is also very easy to take it down. In other words, when we know a storm is coming, we can easily dismantle the entire wind turbine within 10 minutes. Most importantly, the tower and blades of the wind turbine are made up of Glassfiber tubes and recycled PETG. As a result, it can withstand wind speeds up to 20 m/s (45 mph).
In addition, their custom wind catcher smartphone app helps you to track the usage, power production, and lets you remotely on or off the turbine. Currently, the Wind Catcher raising funds on Kickstarter. A limited early bird pledge of US$1,623 will get you one.
