Zapata, a France-based company known for pushing the boundaries of personal aviation, has unveiled the AirScooter, a compact, hybrid-electric VTOL aircraft designed for solo travelers. This single-seater flying machine is built for recreational use and short-distance travel.
Speed, Range, and Payload
The AirScooter has a top speed of 63 miles per hour and cruises comfortably at 50 mph. It can fly for up to two hours on a single tank, offering a longer range than many electric-only alternatives. With a maximum payload of 260 pounds, the aircraft itself weighs around 250 pounds and measures 340 by 340 by 256 centimeters.
Hybrid-Electric Propulsion
Powered by a hybrid-electric propulsion system, the AirScooter includes a five-gallon petrol fuel tank that supports its onboard power source. This hybrid setup extends its range while maintaining a lower environmental impact compared to traditional combustion engines.

Fly-by-Wire Safety and Control
Flight control is simplified through a computer-assisted fly-by-wire system, which makes the AirScooter easier and safer to operate. This system handles flight stabilization and inputs, allowing users with minimal flight experience to control the aircraft with confidence.
No License Needed in the USA
Zapata claims that the AirScooter complies with U.S. regulations. Federal Aviation Administration’s Part 103 regulations. This makes it legal to fly in the United States as an ultralight aircraft without a pilot’s license.
Designed for the Future of Solo Flight
Zapata targets individuals seeking a personal, portable air vehicle that combines modern technology with the freedom to fly. With its hybrid system, extended flight time, and intuitive controls, it represents a practical step forward in the growing personal air mobility market.
